2020 Sewing Reset

Hey y'all, I'm baaaaaaack! (This is going to be a photo-heavy post, so hold onto your hats, folks.)

I've been away from long-form blogging since I got swamped by weddings, holidays, more weddings, COVID, and yes actually two more weddings after that. Wading through months of love, mayhem, moving, much needed revolution for racial justice, and deep deep anxiety hasn't left as much time for writing about sewing but I haven't put down my needle and thread just yet. Actually, I've felt more on task than ever and have completed quite a few projects over the months; 2 travelers journals, 4 masks, 1 blouse that took forever because of the fabric's fiddly open weave that made it all want to fall apart, and I'm on mock-up #2 of a pair of self-drafted lounge shorts.

And I've done a liiiiiiiitle bit of work on the quilt wedding quilt. If I'm honest, I've had a hard time finishing a wedding quilt for one of my former roommates. Both of my last roommates got married within 3 months of each other and it's been hard to process, though I would say one roommate and her husband have been really intentional about keeping me involved in their life (which has been really sweet, we're even leading a Journey Well small group together in the fall). But obviously some feelings remain unresolved because this quilt remains unfinished 🙃. But baking has taken quilting's place.

There's also been a lot of gardening (something I haven't blogged about much here).

Last but not least, I ORGANIZED MY SEWING SUPPLIES! This has been my favorite accomplishment so far. For some reason, looking at every notion and fabric in its assigned place brings a huge bubbling of joy to my heart and makes me so much more excited to get! things! done!

Fabric not yet assigned to a project sorted in a white over-the-door organizer with clear pockets.

All of my sewing supplies sorted in a second white over-the door organizer with clear pockets.

An over-the-door ironing board with a white and green iron. It's on the other side of the closet door with the sewing supplies.

Fabric that is too heavy or large for the over-the-door organizers was hung in my closet in large plastic bags that can also fit the patterns once they are cut out.

I'm not where I thought I would be at the beginning of this year at all. I had hoped I would have finished at least 2 quilts, had an overhauled work wardrobe, and completed several embroidery projects as well. But I've also made a lot personal progress (journaling more, reading more, setting up life systems that help me accomplish more of what I actually want to do), slowly collected the materials I needed, and, now that I am more organized, I'll be revisiting my sewing goals for 2020. Look for that blog post next!
