#MakeNine2019, Pt. 2
Colors
My wardrobe already has a lot of black, red, navy blue, white, and gray especially my professional pieces. I want to incorporate more millennial pink, lavender, sunflower yellow, and sky blue with warm neutrals like tan and cream. Basically, more spring and summer-related colors that convey fun and warmth. As gothy as I am, I've been feeling the need to branch out color- and style-wise, add more of an earthy-yet-lighthearted flavor to my overall presentation.Ideas
I was a longtime Polyvore member (R.I.P.) and I was able to save my sets before the site disappeared forever. I went through them to see what sets corresponded with the shapes of my Make Nine 2019 list, just to see how much could be accomplished with the patterns I chose:
Fabrics
I've already bought a few fabrics. My best resource for low-cost fabric has been Fashion Fabrics Club and Girl Charlee. I know a lot of sewists talk about thrifting fabrics, but that hasn't worked out as well for me. I have found stuff that's useful for muslins or quilting, but nothing that I want to be a part of my actual wardrobe. I don't know if it's just that the area I live in doesn't have access to a lot of second-hand fabric, but I'll be keeping an eye out just in case. Either way, my general budget is $5.00 per yard or less and I've been able to find really nice fabrics in that range, especially by looking at the discount fabrics, in which you can get bolt remnants of 2+ yards for a discounted price.
I can see already that I'm falling back into buying a lot of black, and will need future fabric purchases to pull in the colors that I want to have more of like the cool sky blue, persimmon, goldenrod, and rosewood.
While that peach damask jacquard looks like a nice millennial pink, it is, in fact, a true bright peach and I am planning on that being my Easter outfit. Like I said in the previous post, I see a lot of potential for the #seamworkjenna skirt and the #seamworkakita top for 2-piece dresses and I'll be using this fabric for just that!
