The Kwanzaa Quilt, Pt. 2
So, I've actually started on the Kwanzaa quilt and I think it's definitely going to be more of a crazy quilt than I originally planned.
Basically, I don't have enough time and energy to cut 5 pieces and hand sew 4 seams for just 1/4 of a block. If my sewing machine were in working order I could knock this out in no time, but that is not the case and I actually like hand-sewing, I'm just pressed for time and patience. Also, I need a rt. otary cutter as that would have made the smaller pieces of the original Endless Chain block easier to cuBut I still really liked the shape of the original Endless Chain block, so I just combined the right and left end pieces to make a 3-pieced block and alternated the black, green, and natural colors and this worked out a lot faster. I decided not to use the red as it was too bright and orange-based to go with the ankara fabric that I'm using for the backing:

YIKES! Definitely sewed on the wrong side of the corner lol |

Yup my sewing supplies are stored in a cookie tin, just like my mother's, and her mother's before her, lol. |
I actually loved the way he shapes and colors are interacting in this modified pattern and I used the square that I already made (and fixed lol) to provide some contrast and not waste fabric. I'm not afraid of an improvised scrappy look.
So I didn't complete the mat this Kwanzaa and it feels like a seasonal project. I did attend a local Kwanzaa celebration though and it was beautiful and full of food and music and dancing. I'm looking forward to picking this project up again next fall and completing it for Kwanzaa 2019.
